Product description
The composition "Quintette no. 2" is a composition for wind quintet written by the French composer Jean Françaix in 1987. The piece is written for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn, and is appreciated for its technical difficulty as well as its accessibility to the listener. The piece consists of four movements: Preludio / Toccata / Scherzando / Andante. Each movement brings a unique rhythm and melodicism that is characteristic of Françaix's work.
The set includes parts for all instruments of the quintet.
Jean Françaix (1912-1997) was a French composer and pianist whose music is appreciated for its lightness, wit and brilliant instrumentation. He showed exceptional musical talent from a young age and studied with Nadia Boulanger at the Paris Conservatoire. His style is characterised by neoclassical clarity, lyricism and playfulness. Françaix was known for his ability to compose quickly and constantly, often finishing one piece and immediately beginning another. His works range from concert music, piano pieces, and chamber music to ballets and film music. Many of his works abound in lightness, technical virtuosity and masterful use of the colours of each instrument, and remain popular for their freshness and timeless elegance.
