Product description

Brittany (French: Bretagne, Breton: Breizh) is a historical, geographical and cultural region at the western end of France.  It is distinguished, among other things, by a rich musical tradition in the form of a wide variety of dance melodies. Traditional Breton dances vary from region to region, with each having its own typical dance or a different variant of a common dance.
In this publication we select from the oldest traditional dances of Breton. These originally rural folk dances were accompanied only by singing dancers and only later, when they reached the noble courts, were they accompanied by musicians.
The Breton folk dances in this book have been arranged for alto recorder and piano. The pieces are stylized into a performance form using contemporary harmonic concepts. To achieve greater variety and colour in the dances, some movements are composed of multiple dance motifs.
In the publication there is a link that allows you to download the demo recordings and the recordings of the piano accompaniment in mp3 format to your computer. The recordings are taken from the notation program in which the pieces were written. The audio files are included here to give you an idea of how the pieces sound, and the piano accompaniment recordings can be used to practice the pieces at home.
