"Many years ago, I was captivated by music of American jazz pianist Chick Corey and especially by his album of piano pieces called ‘Children songs’. His music with its straightforwardness resembles jazz improvisation and at the same time evokes principle of children's play. The fascination with Corey’s music was an impulse for me to try to write my own musical fantasies, which would be based on simple ditty and the joy of playing, the joy of rhythm and captivating harmony. I believe that the musical worlds of classical music, children's songs and jazz will be interconnected and merge… “ Jaroslav Šimíček.

Jaroslav Šimíček (*1962) is a Czech jazz double bass player, composer and arranger. He graduated from the Faculty of Education in Ostrava, majoring in music education and the Czech language. In Ostrava, he also graduated from the People’s Conservatory, majoring in guitar, and was a student of jazz musician and teacher Karel Velebný. Currently he composes for Czech Television, theater and film.
