He composed these three compositions during his christmas holiday in Paris in 1927. The christmas atmosphere is also expressed in the titles of these compositions: Le Traîneau (The Dragon) played in Allegro pace, Berceuse enfantin (Child´s Lullaby) and finally rather fast Chante de Nöel (Christmas Singing). These three compositions express perfectly the atmosphere of christmas that you can thanks to them feel even during summer!
Bohuslav Martinů (1890-1959) was a Czech composer, violinist, pedagogue and music critic. His artistic development progressed from impressionism through neoclassicism, expressionism and jazz inspiration to a purely compositional style of his own. Stylistically, he is closest to the generation of neo-classicists such as Arthur Honegger, Béla Bartók and others.
