Sherwood Sonata is a composition by the well-known jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. The sonata is a reduction of his Sherwood Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra (or Clarinet) arranged for soprano saxophone and piano.
Wayne Shorter (1933 - 2023) was an American jazz saxophonist, composer and bandleader. He came to wider public attention in 1959 when he joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, for whom he became the principal composer. He joined Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet in 1964 and then co-founded the jazz fusion group Weather Report in 1970. Many of his compositions have become jazz standards, and his music has won worldwide acclaim, critical praise and recognition. Shorter has won 12 Grammy Awards. He has been praised for his mastery of the soprano saxophone.
