This edition for flute and basso continuo (piano, cello) is based on the original (urtext) edition for viola da gamba, but has been transposed into a more suitable key for the flute. The workbook includes piano accompaniment plus a pull-out parts for flute and cello.
Marin Marais (1656 - 1728) was a French musician, viola da gamba player and composer of the Baroque period. He was a student of Sainte-Colombo and Jean-Baptiste Lully. From 1676 he worked in Versailles at the court of Louis XIV.
