Edith Piaf (1915 - 1963), real name Edith Giovanna Gassion, was a French chansonnier. Her way of interpretation reflected the practical life experiences she had experienced herself or the conditions in which she had just found herself. This artistic approach eventually made her a French national icon and an internationally acclaimed singer.
