Product description
A collection of Albert W. Ketelbey's best-known and best-loved piano pieces.
Albert William Ketèlbey (1875-1959) was an English composer, conductor and pianist, who became famous for his light orchestral music. His music is characterised by its melody, simplicity and ability to evoke particular scenes or moods. He showed exceptional musical talent at a young age. He studied at Trinity College of Music in London, where he excelled as a pianist and composer. Among his extensive oeuvre, he is best known for his compositions that are reminiscent of musical paintings, such as 'In a Persian Market', 'In a Monastery Garden' and 'Bells Across the Meadows'. These compositions often combine exotic melodies, sound effects and harmonic techniques that transport the listener to distant lands or romantic settings. His work was extremely popular in the first half of the 20th century, when it was played in concerts, cinemas and homes. Despite the decline in popularity of his music in the second half of the century, Ketèlbey remains an important figure in British music history who was able to bring classical music to a wider audience. His best-known works are still popular with listeners and performers today.
