Sons On One Page by Bohuslav Martinů. This publiation includes seven songs composed to Moravian Folk Poetry by Bohuslav Martinů in 1943. Together with collecion Nový Špalíček and Songs On the Two Sides belong to the jewels of the Czech songs in twentieth century. Phrasing of songs is based on texts rhythm. Due to its efficiency and freedom from external effects, that songs are one of the keys to the late works of Martinu.
Bohuslav Martinů (1890-1959) was a Czech composer, violinist, pedagogue and music critic. His artistic development progressed from impressionism through neoclassicism, expressionism and jazz inspiration to a purely compositional style of his own. Stylistically, he is closest to the generation of neo-classicists such as Arthur Honegger, Béla Bartók and others.
