Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683 - 1764) was a French composer and music theorist of the Baroque period. He was a composer of motets, cantatas, small instrumental pieces, as well as large vocal-instrumental works - operas. Jean-Philippe Rameau was one of the most important French musicians of the 18th century. He is often described as an author who was well ahead of his time.
